Neighborhoods Guide
The Upper East Side

The Upper East Side is located between 59th and 96th streets, east of Central Park, to the East River.

This neighborhood was the last destination of New York's elite as they moved uptown at the turn of the century. Still, many of them remained here occupying exclusive apartment buildings on Fifth Avenue and Park Avenue. Here the rents are high, although apartments further east offer stabilized deals that can be found listed below market value.

Known for its luxury homes, intermingled with bargain rent stabilized townhouses, the Upper East Side has something for every one. Witness spectacular views of the East River during the day, as well as the Queensborogh Bridge lit up like stars at night. Spend your spare time shopping at Bloomingdale's, pursuing the Metropolitan Museum of Art, or linger over the finest gourmet cuisine at one of NYC's top ten restaurants. Not to mention having Central Park as your playground.

Carnegie Hill is the area of New York City apartments spanning from Park to Fifth Avenue, 79th to 94th streets. Comprised of large apartments and brownstones constructed with the finest architectural detail in mind. Maintaining pre war detail, but modernizing interiors is what sets this area apart from the rest. Surrounding each structure are well manicured lawns which if added to the greenery of Central Park make this area feel like an oasis in the city.

Home to Woody Allen and Rudolph Giuliani, naturally homes in this prestigious area of the Upper East Side are considered very high-end real estate. New Yorkers choose this location for the favorable size/dollar exchange. Many locals consider this area to be NYC's finest residential neighborhood.

Yorkville, located to the east of Lexington between 77th and 86th Streets, is the neighborhood named after York Avenue, which runs directly down the middle of it. Yorkville's claim to fame is Gracie Mansion, home of the Mayor of New York City. Architecturally speaking, this area is exemplified in lovely townhouses, and turn-of-the-century-brownstones. Each display fantastic detailing like wrought-iron railings, crown moldings and decorative fireplace mantelpieces. A charm lover's delight.

Considered a location where you can find "the biggest bang for your buck," in apartment rentals, Yorkville is popular as a first-timer neighborhood for city transplants. Besides its picturesque streets and conveniently located grocery stores, delis and cafes, it is a quiet neighborhood. Safe, welcoming and a little less of a metropolis than other Manhattan neighborhoods. In the last few years the neighborhood has become popular with the young single crowd. A wide diversity of shops has moved into the area, as it has become more self-sufficient as a residential community. The feel is casual and less costly than the Upper West Side, but equally as charming. See a map of this neighborhood.
